Day 3: 03rd  June   Seminyak – Bali Lake and Hills

Depart from the coast for a full day exploration of Bali’s lakes and hills. Drive towards Bedugul, an area of the central highlands that is famous for its stunning beauty and three lakes. Stop at the Royal Temple of Mengwi which was built in 1634 to serve as the family temple of the Mengwi dynasty. Admire this stunning piece of historic architecture, surrounded by a moat with multi–roofed meru shrines and intricately carved wooden gates.

Next up is a visit to the traditional market of Bedugul where a myriad of locally-grown fruits, vegetables and orchids are for sale. Browse the stalls alongside the locals, learning about the different uses of spices and herbs in Balinese cooking.

Carry on to Lake Bratan, one of Bedugul’s three natural lakes. Admire the views of the peaceful waters and snap photos of Ulun Danu, a 17th-century temple located on the lake’s edge.

Just a 30-minute fast boat ride from Sanur Beach, the lesser-known Nusa Penida Island surprises with stunning limestone cliffs, clear blue bays and rolling green hills. Known to the Balinese as the ‘island of demons’ and once a place for outcasts, this is an untouched island truly for explorers who like to go off the beaten trail.

Check-in and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

We recommend visiting one of the stunning beaches nearby. It is just a few minutes of walking to Chrystal Bay, with its clear water and coconut-lined white sand beach.

Make a stop at Kelingking Secret Point, a hidden beach rapidly gaining fame. The limestone cliff covered in lush green resembles a T-Rex shape and hides a beautiful beach 400 metres below which requires quite an effort to get to.

Then, discover the so-called ‘Broken Beach’ Pasih Uug, an emerald bay filled with turquoise ocean water through a hole in a cliff. Just nearby is Angel’s Billabong, a natural tidal pool of sharp volcanic rock, into which the powerful waves are crashing during high tide and which is flat as a mirror during low tide.

Lunch is served during the day at a simple local eatery. End the day with a visit to the secluded Crystal Bay, a palm-fringed white sandy beach facing Ceningan Island. The crystal-clear waters are swimmable during calmer tides.
