Remove the mask!

»Yeah, everything is great at the beginning of the relationship, but wait until he/she shows their real face!«

I hear this very often, and I’m pretty sure I’ve stated that a few times in my life as well. I’ve also been the person who tried to impress and show only my good side to other people, in relationships, at work, in friendships etc. When we try to impress someone with our good qualities, we sometimes even got o the extent of acting like a completely different person.

But why?

Lack of self-acceptance and self-love.

I’ve recently come to a realization: If I truly accept myself and love myself for who I am, I don’t have to try hard to prove what an awesome person I am. I don’t have to try hard to impress others, I don’t have to pretend, or hide certain aspects of me. If I truly accept and love myself for who I am, I can be just that: myself. By being relaxed and feeling good in my own skin, I don’t have to waste my energy on hiding, acting, pretending. I don’t have to wear a mask.

Only by accepting, loving and being myself I can attract the right people into my life, only by playing with open cards I can start a healthy relationship, only by being honest and straight forward to myself I can be the same to others.

So drop the mask, show your true face, let your weird light shine bright so the other weirdos can find you! 😉 Be your amazing, unique, special self and don’t waste your energy on trying to impress others. Don’t be ashamed of the amazing person that you are, embrace your awesomeness! And see how others will respond 😉

P.s.: It’s not about the ego or being narcissistic. I recommend Jorge Bucay’s book El Camino del Encuentro (Pot srečanja –  not sure if there is an English translation too), I really like his point of view on the topic 😉

Keep shining, I see your light 😉
